Designed between 1967 and 1970 by Marcel Breuer and Associates with Hamilton Smith, Technology II was the last building completed under Breuer's long commission for New York University's School of Engineering and Science, on a Bronx campus overlooking the Harlem River. An eight-storey rectangular volume housing laboratories and offices links, through a service tower, to a three-storey classroom wing raised on branching concrete pilotis — a dialogue characteristic of Breuer between suspended mass and released ground. The long façades are ordered by modular precast window panels while the narrow ends stay blind: the elevation reveals the rigorous partition of the whole.
