Project Info
Ford Foundation Headquarters (Atrium Section) 321 East 42nd Street, New York — completed 1967 Kevin Roche and John Dinkeloo's twelve-story atrium, planted with a third of an acre of subtropical garden and wrapped on two sides by the foundation's offices. The section captures what the building proposed as a new civic gesture: a private corporate headquarters organised around a shared interior landscape, visible to its workers and to the street. Widely regarded as one of the most significant interior spaces of postwar American architecture and a reference point for the atrium typology that followed. Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates, architects.
